What it means to build custom.
Building custom means the floor plan starts with how your family actually lives, not with a plan book. Where the light comes in, how the kitchen connects to the living space, whether you need a main-floor bedroom or a mudroom that can handle four kids and a dog. Those decisions are yours.
As a licensed South Dakota general contractor, Burress Construction manages the entire build: plans, permitting, site work, framing, and every trade through final walkthrough. You work with one team and one point of contact instead of coordinating a dozen subcontractors yourself.

A home built around your family.
We build a limited number of homes each year so every client gets real attention from the people actually running the job.
01
Your Plan, Not a Plan Book
We start with how you live and design from there. Bring your own plans or work with us to develop them.
02
Honest, Itemized Pricing
You see what each part of the home costs, so you can make trade-offs with real numbers instead of guesses.
03
One Contractor, Start to Finish
Plans, permits, site work, framing, and every trade managed by us. One phone number for the whole project.
04
Built for This Climate
Insulation, windows, and mechanicals specified for Black Hills winters, not for a national average.
05
Local Trades We Trust
The same framers, electricians, and finish crews on every job, so quality does not change house to house.
06
Built to Last
Quality materials and craftsmanship, because you should not be fixing a new home five years in.

How a Burress home comes together.
Building a home should not feel like a mystery. Here is how the process works from the first conversation to the day you get the keys.
We start with a conversation about your lot, your must-haves, and a realistic budget. From there we develop or refine plans and put together an itemized estimate, so you know what the home costs before anyone breaks ground.
We handle county permitting, engineering, and site preparation, including access, excavation, foundation, and coordination of well and septic where needed. You do not chase paperwork.
Framing through finish work, managed by our team with the local trades we use on every job. You get regular updates, a clear schedule, and a final walkthrough before you move in.
Your local home builder in the Black Hills.
Burress Construction has built homes across the Black Hills for years, so we know the local terrain, the county permitting and residential code process, and what it takes to build on a hillside or an acreage out of town. As a licensed South Dakota general contractor, we specify each home for where it is going, from Meade and Pennington County requirements to the heavier snow loads up near Lead and Deadwood.
We build new custom homes, acreage homes, and major additions throughout western South Dakota. See our completed agricultural projects →
Custom home FAQs.
Cost depends on square footage, the complexity of the plan, your site, and the level of finish you choose. Rather than quote a price per square foot that means nothing until the details are set, we build an itemized estimate from your actual plans so you can see where the money goes and adjust before we start.
